Royal Tavern is one of those hip places you slide into to enjoy a couple of beers and interesting conversation- exactly what a bar should be. Set in a residential neighborhood a couple of blocks from the Italian Market, manager Josie gathers the friendly and efficient staff which serves up a warm, inviting vibe along with comfort food and excellent beers and cocktails. I usually stop by after the gym for a beer or two, as well as that truffle Parmesan popcorn I’m addicted to! Their three cheese grilled cheese sandwich and tomato bisque is a must on cool days.
I’m fortunate to count assistant manager and bar keep Katie among my Philly girlfriends; look at that smile!! From Pennsylvania, she is a singer-songwriter I had the pleasure of hearing perform recently when she belted out Amy Winehouse’s ‘Valerie’ on open mic night at Time, in Center City. Michael bar tends full time and it’s always a pleasure to connect with him; only he can make the bloody Mary mix just right for their popular weekend brunch.
You won’t be disappointed at Royal, especially when you stop by 4-6 Mon-Fri for happy hour, when all the taps are half price and well drinks are just $3. Leave a comment for me after you’ve had the experience!
